Her work is editorial in eye and warm in feeling — soft, honest color, close attention to the details her couples have considered, and the moments that happen between them. She brings an artist's care to what's already in front of her, so her couples get to be present for the day instead of producing it. Most of them leave with a friend.
Lauren and Jason’s Lake Michigan engagement photos took two tries and two different harbors to come together. The first attempt ended at the charter with a reschedule. The second ended out on open water, with blue lake in every direction and two very good sports rolling with the waves. If you’ve been picturing a sailboat engagement session on Lake Michigan, their story shows what can go sideways and why it’s still worth planning for.
Our first session was set for New Buffalo, Michigan. We started on the beach and spent some time in the sand before heading over to meet the charter and that’s where the plan changed. The waves were too high to take the boat out, so we rescheduled. But we grabbed some drinks at a harbor rooftop and chatted about their wedding day plans as the sun set to make the best of the weather! I cannot wait to celebrate these two at Bay View at Gallagher Farms next summer!
If you’ve ever had a plan you were excited about fall through at the last minute, you know how deflating that feels, especially when you’ve already gotten ready and made the drive. Lake Michigan engagement photos depend on the lake cooperating. A good charter captain will make that call for you. As disappointing as it is in the moment, a sailboat engagement session on Lake Michigan is always better on a day when the boat can safely leave the harbor.

For round two, we tried again. This time in South Haven, Michigan and we set sail. We enjoyed the deep blue water, the sand along the shoreline, and the rocky waves that kept everyone on their toes. Being on a boat isn’t for the weak, but these two were troopers. Their South Haven, Michigan engagement session was so worth it and so beautiful.

Jason started planning in October 2024, right after he and Lauren went ring shopping. Every summer around the Fourth of July, they visit his aunt’s house in Lake Tahoe, so he quietly asked Lauren’s family to meet them there. On the day of the proposal, his aunt insisted everyone dress up for dinner photos and kept suggesting Lauren wear all white with pearls. On the way to dinner, Jason said they had to make a quick stop for his aunt. That stop turned out to be a beach, and they walked down a long path to a pier, where he asked her to marry him. In Lauren’s words, “I kind of blacked out after that because it was perfect, just as I had imagined, in the summer, by the water.”
Lauren thought that was the big surprise. Then they pulled up to the restaurant and found both of their families waiting, all flown in for the night.
Lauren and Jason’s session reminded me that a rescheduled session doesn’t have to mean a lesser one. Their Lake Michigan sailboat engagement photos were worth every bit of the wait and I can’t wait for their wedding.
