Choosing an editorial wedding photographer means you’re looking for someone who can capture your day with a blend of timeless elegance and modern artistry. It’s more than just photos! It’s about telling your story through stunning imagery. But with so many options available, how do you ensure you’re making the right choice? Here are the key questions to ask an editorial wedding photographer before booking.
AVAILABILITY
Is our date available?
This is one of the most important questions to ask an editorial wedding photographer! If the photographer isn’t available, there’s no point in asking further questions unless you’re able to switch your date. Photography is one of the most essential services for your wedding day (right alongside your wedding planner!). Make sure they’re available before diving deeper into the details!
EXPERIENCE
What is your style?
Every photographer has a unique style, whether it’s traditional, film wedding photography, bright and airy, or moody and dark. Choosing a photographer whose style resonates with you is key to ensuring you love your photos. Not only should you love their editing style, but also how they work with couples during posing and throughout the day.
How many weddings have you photographed?
Experience matters! Hiring a photographer with solid wedding experience means they can provide you with vendor recommendations, create an ideal timeline, and deliver beautiful, well-thought-out photos. If you’re considering a newer photographer, that’s totally fine too! Just be mindful that more experienced photographers come with the benefits of their expertise, from prep to execution to editing.
Can you share galleries?
After a discovery call, I love to share a few full wedding galleries so the couple can see exactly what it’s like to work with me. While Instagram and portfolio highlights are great, they don’t always show the full experience. Seeing an entire wedding day from start to finish gives you a true sense of their approach, how they capture different moments, and the overall feel of the images.
Also, keep an eye out for styled shoots—they look beautiful but aren’t the same as a real wedding day! Everything is perfectly planned, without the natural flow and challenges of an actual celebration.
Do you use backup equipment?
This is like a backup for your backup, and it’s essential! I always bring two cameras, multiple lenses, SD cards, and a hard drive to ensure your photos are safe and backed up ASAP. It gives both of us peace of mind on your big day!
How long until I receive the images?
This can vary, but the typical turnaround time is about 6-8 weeks. I aim to deliver within 4 weeks because I know how eager couples are to relive their beautiful day! Keep in mind, though, other deliverables like photo books or prints may take longer.

COLLECTIONS
These are just a few of the key questions to ask an editorial wedding photographer. But beyond all the technical details, make sure you choose a photographer based on these personal connections:
- Is there a genuine connection between the two of you?
- Do your personalities match, and do you feel like you could become great friends?
- Do their answers to your questions align with your wedding vision?
- Are you comfortable with their workflow and how they plan to handle the entire process?
- Do you absolutely love their style?
When you find the right photographer, it’ll feel like a perfect fit for you and your big day!
